MND Logs Self Review


Complete the following activity to prepare your logs for submission.
Log #1
This log should be organized in the following way:
1.     Introduce the mechanicals from the scene and give a brief summary.
2.     Characterize each mechanical with at least one piece of text evidence to support your chosen character trait.  This should be done in multiple paragraphs.
3.     Determine which mechanical you like best and explain why using text evidence.
4.     Do not use ‘I’.  The understanding is that it is personal opinion because you wrote it.

Log #2
This log should be organized in the following way:
1.     Identify the characters introduced in the scene. This can be organized as a list.
2.     Identify the objective and super-objective of each character.  Be sure to use text reference to support your ideas.

Log #3
This log should be organized in the following way:
  1. This is a personal narrative log.  Use the first paragraph to introduce the situation with Hermia and her father and then overview the event you will describe.
  2. This paragraph should deal with how Hermia tried to change both her father and the Duke’s mind about who she should marry.
  3. This paragraph should explain what you would do to change your parents’ minds.  If this situation has occurred to you, this is where you would describe it.
  4. The last paragraph should summarize Hermia’s argument, and describe alternate actions she could have taken.

Log #4
This log should be organized in the following way:
1.     Introduce the character of Robin, better known as Puck, and the concept of tricks that he plays.
2.     Identify the tricks and kindnesses, using the text to support your list.  This list may include the actions towards the four lovers, too.
3.     Choose a few character traits that describe Puck and tie them to the tricks and kindnesses identified above.
4.     Analyze what Puck’s ideas about humans, and use text evidence to support your ideas.
Log #5
This log should be organized in the following way:
1.     Introduce the concept of dreams leading to your thesis about the dream that Hermia experiences in the play.
2.     Discuss the symbolism of dreams, beginning with the symbolism of Hermia’s dream (use text reference), and then introduce the dream that you have had.
3.     Describe how the dream began, continued and ended.
4.     Discuss any symbolism apparent in the dream, or its connection to something that happened to you in your life.

Log #6
This log should be organized in the following way:
1.     Introduce the concept of love, and the concept of blind love.  State your thesis about blind love in relation to Midsummer.
2.     List as many examples of blind love as possible, explaining in well developed paragraphs the situation of the love, and why it constitutes blind love.  This can be done in list format or in multiple paragraphs.
3.     Draw a conclusion about the idea of love.

Log #7
  1. Introduce the character of Bottom by overviewing a couple of his actions in the play, using text support, then introduce someone you know who resembles him.
  2. Describe a situation where the person you know acted like Bottom.  Describe the beginning, middle, and the end of the situation.
  3. Draw comparisons between the two, using text evidence for Bottom, and references back to the story for your person.

Log #8
  1. Introduce the character of Hippolyta and state an opinion about her character as your thesis statement.
  2. Characterize her in a couple of paragraphs, using text evidence to support your ideas.

Log #9
  1. Introduce the concept of plays and what makes a good play.  Think characters, plot, and realism of situation.
  2. Analyze MND as a good play.  Use text evidence to support your ideas.
  3. Analyze Pyramus and Thisbe as a bad play. Use text evidence to support your ideas.
  4. Conclude.

Log #10
  1. Summarize Puck’s speech, and introduce the concept of plays and players.
  2. Identify at least three examples of plays and players in Midsummer.  Explain how the concept is developed as a play with players in each example.  Use text evidence to support your ideas.  This should be multiple paragraphs.
 3.  Draw a conclusion about the play based on this idea.  Decide if the speech is a satisfactory end to the play.
